Stacy Rader Joins CBS Media Ventures As Head Of First-Run Development & Brand Extensions

In Wendy McMahon’s first major executive hire since the CBS News chief took oversight of CBS Media Ventures, she has brought in veteran producer and development executive Stacy Rader as SVP, First-Run Development and Brand Extensions at CBS Media Ventures.

In her new role, Rader, who will be based in New York, will work with senior leadership to create and coordinate CMV’s content strategy across platforms.

She succeeds Elaine Bauer Brooks, who departed her post as EVP, Development and MultiPlatform Content at CBS Media Ventures in August after nine years at the company on the heels of CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio’s retirement amid a corporate restructuring that saw the division become part McMahon’s portfolio.

“Stacy’s background as an experienced producer who has an eye toward creating compelling content, with an expertise in modernizing brands to meet audience expectations and create new business opportunities, is exactly what we were looking for as we develop new shows and look to extend our current best-in-class franchises,” said McMahon, President and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.

At the time of Brooks’ departure, McMahon reiterated the company’s commitment to the first-run syndication business, which has been undergoing a major contraction. That includes CMV, which has launched only one new daytime talk show in the past decade or so, The Drew Barrymore Show, while ending the company’s top performers, led by Judge Judy and Dr. Phil.

“The syndication landscape is continuously evolving and changing, but CBS Media Ventures’ commitment to gold-standard programming remains constant. That commitment will be top of mind in all new development,” Rader said. “I equally look forward to building on the success of CMV’s iconic, award-winning shows with the opportunity to help expand their footprint. I come to these shows not only as a professional, but also a passionate fan and longtime viewer.”

Rader spent a dozen years at Sony Pictures Television, where she rose to EVP and Head of Brand Partnerships for The Dr. Oz Show spinoff The Good Dish, the syndicated show she also co-created and developed, as well as serving as co-executive producer and Head of Brand Partnerships for the mothership Dr. Oz program.

In addition to working in the syndication space, Rader served as co-executive producer of development for A+E Factual Studios-Six West Media. Other producing credits include Food Network’s Ask Aida and syndicated shows The Tony Danza Show, The Jane Pauley Show and The Rosie O’Donnell Show.
