Quan Yi Fong is one of local showbiz’s most decorated television hosts, with Star Awards 2024 being her ninth win for hosting.

However, just last year, she lost Best Programme Host to Mediacorp’s ‘Ah Ge’ Christopher Lee for his show Dishing With Chris Lee, which broke her five-year winning streak.

When asked how it felt like to reclaim her trophy this year, Quan, 50, told local media backstage, “At that time, I already had five consecutive wins, so I felt it was time to ‘return’ the trophy and let other programmes have their time to shine.

“But I believe I’m very lucky to win the award back this year because this season of Hear U Out has gone abroad. So I’m very honoured, and I feel my team is very capable as they’ve managed to bring the brand out of Singapore to interview overseas artistes.”

Quan is the host of the highly popular talk show series Hear U Out (2020 to present), which is in its fourth season. The show has featured some of local showbiz’s biggest actors like Fann Wong and Yeo Yann Yann, and its fourth season saw guests like Hong Kong actor couple Julian Cheung and Anita Yuen.

Commenting on whether she’ll get an All-Time Favourite Host award (like those who’ve secured 10 wins in the Top 10 Most Popular Artistes category), she said she hopes her career will progress and it doesn’t necessarily have to be specially celebrated after a specific number of wins.

“The company also cannot possibly create a new category just for me,” she remarked with a laugh.

Quan added, “It doesn’t always have to be me who wins. I just hope that the spirit of variety show hosting can always be passed on.
