You know what they say - if you want something done right, you got to do it yourself. And that’s what local actor Romeo Tan did for the upcoming Star Awards 2024.

In a video posted on Instagram on Friday (22 March), the 38-year-old recorded himself using fellow actress Joanne Peh’s phone to vote for himself for the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award.

Tan can be heard saying, “This is Joanne’s phone. She asked me to vote for myself, so I’m just pressing and pressing [the vote button] until I hit the maximum of 10 votes.”

The maximum number of votes that can be cast in a category per account is 10 per day.

Meanwhile, in the video, Peh is getting her hair done and laughing at everything that’s going on. After Tan finished voting, she said, “All the best.”

Video was 'just for fun'

Of course, Tan clarified that the video was “just for fun” and “no one was harmed or forced in the making of this video”.

In the comments, Peh explained, “Actually, it's because I lazy to click the bicycles and buses to prove I'm not a robot, so I let the person himself do it.”

Considering that Romeo is on his 8th win in this category, just two shy from the All-Time Favourite Artiste award, we can see why the votes would be important for him.

And who better to give him a little cheer and luck than Peh?

After all, she snagged her 10th win in 2016 and received the All-Time Favourite Artiste award in 2017.

Members of the public can start voting for their favourite artistes from now till 21 April, 7.30pm. The voting page can be found here.
