It must be a thrill to see your name - for the first time - in the list of nominees for the Star Awards, the most prestigious awards ceremony for local showbiz. That said, local host and former radio DJ Yan Wei Xiao Er is keeping it real.

In response to the announcement of the nominees for the Star Awards 2024's Top 10 Most Popular Artistes, Yan Wei wrote on Facebook, “Thanks for all the well wishes regarding my Star Awards nomination. I'm obviously here to just participate only la, but still thankful for the nomination!”

That said, Yan Wei isn’t going down without a fight and would like a non-zero amount of votes. He added, “Though I’m just participating, zero votes won’t look nice, when you guys free then help me vote.”

Yan Wei occasionally hosts interviews for 8world Entertainment & Lifestyle, and he also hosted the live audience segment for last year’s Star Awards.

In June last year, it was reported that the host was detained by the security at Dubai Mall for taking selfie videos outside the mall. He wanted to film videos for a vlog on the Outcasts YouTube channel.

Aside from Yan Wei, other first-time nominees for the award include Taiwanese host Matilda Tao, South Korean actor Kim Jae-hoon, veteran actress Chen Hui Hui, and former K-pop singer Ferlyn G.

A full list of the nominees can be found here.

Members of the public can start voting for their favourite artistes from now till 21 April, 7.30pm. The voting page can be found here.
