Star Trek: Discovery's Sonequa Martin-Green lands next lead movie role
Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green has landed her next lead role in a dark comedy/drama.
She's been cast alongside Westworld and Top Gun: Maverick star Ed Harris and The Morning Show's Natalie Morales in My Dead Friend Zoe, where she'll play a female veteran who has a mysterious friendship with her friend from the Army, Zoe (played by Morales), who just happens to be dead.
Martin-Green's character is summoned to the lake house of her estranged Vietnam veteran grandfather (Harris), and tasked with providing him with help, which he is very reluctant to accept.

My Dead Friend Zoe will be the directorial debut of Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, himself a veteran, having served in the US Army as a paratrooper and convoy commander. The film is based on his experiences in the military, and is based on Merit X Zoe, a short film he co-wrote and directed last year.
Hausmann-Stokes said (via Deadline): “My fellow veterans and I often get reduced to archetypes and melodramatic tropes. We’re much more dynamic, funny, complex than that.
“This will be a story about veterans we haven’t seen before; one that anyone, military/veteran or not, can relate to and enjoy.”
Producers Ray Maiello and Mike Field of Radiant Studios – who are producing alongside Paul Scanlan and Terri Lubaroff of Legion M and Richard Silverman – said: “We are honoured to support Kyle’s vision and bring attention to the mental health challenges facing our nation’s veterans.
“This is an inclusive story with an outstanding cast and we’re gratified that our renewable energy investments can help bring these important stories to light.”
My Dead Friend Zoe doesn't have a confirmed release date just yet.
Star Trek: Discovery seasons 1-4 are now available on Paramount+. A fifth and final season has been confirmed, and is expected to premiere in early 2024.
