The 2024 Golden Globes take place on Sunday, Jan. 7, and with a show that aims to encapsulate a blockbuster summer at the movies and another binge-worthy year of television, the event is guaranteed to be filled with nail-biting moments.

TV mega-hits such as Succession are entering with a whopping nine nominations, while movies such as Barbie and Oppenheimer continue to vie for the top spot in multiple categories.

Adding to all the fare is the fact that several actors from the same works will be competing in the same categories. From Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe to Martin Short and Steve Martin, see which costars are running for the same trophies as their costars at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe are no strangers to the Golden Globe frenzy. Both actors have previously been top contenders at the show, with Ruffalo doubly nominated for his performances in The Normal Heart and Foxcatcher in 2015, snagging a trophy for I Know This Much Is True in 2021.

Defoe is also not a first-timer: the actor has three prior nominations for his performances in Shadow of the Vampire, The Florida Project and At Eternity's Gate.

This year, the two gentlemen face off in the best performance by a male actor in a supporting role category in any motion picture for their work in Poor Things. Also in the same stacked category are Robert DeNiro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Charles Melton (May December) and Robert Downey Jr. (Oppenheimer).

The battle of the Roys continues off-screen as Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are all nominated for their performances in Succession. The costars are up against Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Dominic West (The Crown) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) in the best performance by a male actor in a television series — drama.

Nominated for their supporting roles in Succession, Alexander Skarsgård, Alan Ruck and Matthew MacFadyen face off against Billy Crudup, who's up for The Morning Show, Ebon Moss-Bachrach for his performance as Cousin in The Bear and James Marsden, who's nominated for Jury Duty.

Longtime collaborators Martin Short and Steve Martin will go head-to-head for best performance by an actor in a television series - musical or comedy, for their performances as Oliver Putnam and Charles-Haden Savage in Only Murders in the Building. Also in the category are Bill Hader (Barry), Jason Segel (Shrinking), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear).

Three songs from the Barbie soundtrack are up for best original song - motion picture: "Dance the Night" by Mark Ronson, Dua Lipa, Andrew Wyatt and Caroline Ailin; "I'm Just Ken" by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt; and "What Was I Made for" by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.

Also in the category are Rustin's "Road to Freedom" by Lenny Kravitz; "Addicted to Love" by Bruce Springsteen, off the She Came to Me soundtrack; and "Peaches" by Jack Black, Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond and John Spiker, from the Super Mario Bros. Movie soundtrack.
