Stately home owners 'sad' to sell business

A historic stately home once used for several TV programmes has gone on sale for £7.5m.

Hintlesham Hall Hotel & Spa in Hintlesham near Ipswich is a Grade I listed Elizabethan hotel.

Previously it has been owned by chef Robert Carrier OBE as well as cookery writer and hotelier Ruth Watson, who both used the hall in several shows.

Current owner Has Modi said now was the right time to "step back and hand over to new owners".

"Whilst it is of course sad to be selling a business with which we have been involved with for many years, now is the right time," he said.

"The business is well positioned with value enhancement opportunities for a new owner.

"Most importantly we would like to thank the staff, with whom we have shared this memorable journey, for their hard work and dedication over the years."

The hotel has appeared on shows including Carrier & Friends, Carrier's Kitchen as well as The Hotel Inspector and Country House Rescue with Ruth Watson.

It has 32 bedrooms along with a spa.

There is already planning permission for a self-contained function suite and listed building consent has been granted for an enhanced spa area at the rear of the coach house.

The sale does not include Hintlesham Golf Club, which is a separate business.
