Steph McGovern sparked some hilarious chaos on Channel 4 today (October 12) after she missed the beginning of her show Steph's Packed Lunch.

The star was due to front the show as usual, though after a held-up train from London to the studio in Leeds – as well as some further travel chaos – chef Simon Rimmer was forced to step in to cover.

However, Steph did manage to call in from a car on the way, as Simon joked to viewers as part of a caller segment with Money Saving Expert's Gareth Shaw.

"We've got a viewer who has a question who is having issues with train travel. I think she's called Stephanie? Good morning, Stephanie! What is your question for Gareth?" he began.

Steph then joked: "I'm so excited to be on 'Simon's Packed Lunch', I can't believe this! This is a big day for me, thank you for having me on!"

The presenter went on to explain her nightmare journey, telling Simon and the viewers: "We were coming up from London because I was at the Attitude Awards last night. Great night! Didn't actually drink… or did I?"

"Jumped on the train this morning, I was on the 7:03, and then not long into it, it stopped, came to a shuddering halt. I threw a coffee all over myself – an ice one so no injuries. But I smell, and I'm damp."

Simon interjected by suggesting she should get to her question as "we're a busy show", further quipping that "when you get viewers on it gets a little bit kind of pear-shaped".

Steph continued: "Basically the train stopped, and an hour and a half later we still hadn't moved. We ended up getting booted off at Grantham, then ended up in a taxi, then our taxi driver had to stop because he had to go and pick up and old woman that he didn't want to let down.

"So we had to swap cars. And now we're in the final car, on our way! But what I want to know is, what's the compensation, man?"

After Gareth told Steph that she should be able to get money back on her train ticket, Simon then wrapped up: "Lovely to speak to you, Stephanie."

"Continue to watch 'Simon's Packed Lunch'," he joked. "Take your time, we're having a ball here. The lunch waiter's saying how much better the show is. There's no diva at the top of the show!"

However, Steph thankfully managed to make it to the studio later on and ran in to cheers from the crew as she hugged Simon… who seemed less than pleased he'd now been bumped.

Steph's Packed Lunch airs on Channel 4.
