Stephen Amell Teases “Suits” Spinoff Will Be 'Different for Me — Talky-Talky, Not Punchy-Punchy' (Exclusive)

Amell is best known for his role in The CW's 'Arrow', which ran for eight seasons from 2012 to 2020

Stephen Amell has landed the lead role in Suits: LA.

The Arrow alum, 42, will take on the role of Ted Black in the highly anticipated spinoff series. According to an official description, Amell's character is a "charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others."

Amell tells PEOPLE of the new role: "I'm very excited. It's something very new and different for me — talky-talky, not punchy-punchy."

Amell is best known for his role as Green Arrow in CW's Arrow. The superhero series began in 2012 and concluded in 2020 after eight seasons and 170 episodes, having spun out multiple other series including The FlashLegends of TomorrowSupergirlBlack Lightning and Batwoman.

More recently, the actor led the critically acclaimed STARZ series Heels and will next be seen starring in the Netflix film Code 8: Part II, which he also produced.

Earlier this month, NBC ordered a pilot for the the series which will be set in the same universe as the original legal drama. The project, helmed by Suits creator Aaron Korsh, will feature a brand-new cast, though it remains unknown if the actors from the 2011 series will make an appearance.

Suits: LA's official logline reads: "Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved."

Under the direction of Victoria Mahoney, the show is scheduled to begin production in late March in Vancouver. If the pilot goes to series, Suits L.A. could be released some time in the 2024–2025 season.

In addition to writing the pilot, Korsh will executive produce alongside former Suits EPs David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein.

Many stars from the original series have been vocal about their desire to return to the Suits universe.

At the 2024 Golden GlobesPatrick J. Adams — who played Mike Ross for nine seasons in the USA Network series — told Entertainment Tonight during Variety and ET's Golden Globes 2024 pre-show that he would be open to reprising his role.

"If we got the phone call, if I got the phone call, I'm ready to suit up again," he said. "I love the show, I love the character. And I loved working with all these people," he added.
