Stephen Chow apologises for cancelling event

6 Feb - Comedy director Stephen Chow has recently apologised for cancelling a fan meeting in Xi'an recently, following criticisms from the public.

As reported on Mingpao News, the director was earlier scheduled to appear at a shopping centre in Xi'an alongside the cast of his new movie, "The Mermaid" to meet the fans.

Fans, who crowded the mall before the scheduled appearance, were extremely upset after finding out that it was cancelled.

It was also rumoured that the event was not actually cancelled, but had instead changed the venue to another hotel.

However, on 3 February, Stephen's production company released a statement of apology, explaining that they had to cancel the event for security reasons although the comedy auteur himself had already arrived from Beijing to attend it.

The company stated that they were mainly worried after being notified about the unexpectedly large amount of people attending the event, which would spark a mishap without enough security.

Lastly, the company apologised to the media and the public for the inconvenience, adding that the cancellation was regrettable.
