The UK version of Jeopardy! has officially revealed its host — and the job has gone to British icon and former QI presenter Stephen Fry.

Jeopardy! is an American quiz show first aired in 1964 and is presented by Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings in the US, who took over following the death of its iconic long-running host Alex Trebek in 2020.

The game show reverses the classic question-and-answer formula of most quiz shows and instead presents contestants with the answers and they have to come up with the correct question.

Earlier this year, ITV announced that a new version of the show is in the works and Fry is now the presenter of the brand-new UK edition.

Speaking about the news, Fry said: "In the United States, Jeopardy! is a phenomenon like no other. Whenever I’m in America, I do my damnedest to catch it every weekday. The idea of hosting it here in the UK makes me dizzy with delight."

He continued: "Such a dedicated quizzing nation as ours will, I hope, welcome this uniquely beguiling and endlessly rewarding game."

Meanwhile, ITV's head of entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe, spoke of her excitement about bringing the quiz show to the UK and adding Fry to the team.

"Bringing Jeopardy! to a brand new audience as part of our weekday schedule is exciting. There is no one better to host this classic gameshow than Stephen, bringing knowledge and entertainment to all of our viewers," Rawcliffe said.

The show has previously had a British version on a number of occasions including in the 1980s and two stints in the 1990s. There is currently no release date for this new edition of Jeopardy! but it will air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX sometime this Autumn.
