Legal action between BBC presenter Stephen Nolan, newspaper The Irish News and journalist Rodney Edwards has ended "on mutually satisfactory terms".

The case came after allegations made by the newspaper in August 2023.

It has been settled outside of court and in a joint statement published in the Irish News, the paper, Mr Edwards ad Mr Nolan said a resolution has been made and "all parties agree that a dispute between journalists - is undesirable for everyone concerned".

Mr Nolan's lawyer, Paul Tweed, said it was "a satisfactory, and sensible outcome for all concerned".

The joint statement issued on Thursday said: "Mr Nolan acknowledges that the Irish News is entitled to report on matters which are in the public interest, including issues linked to the BBC, fairly and accurately.

"The Irish News, for its part, accepts that at no stage did Mr Nolan or other BBC figures attempt to engage in the manipulation of audiences during his television programme."
