Doctor Who former showrunner Steven Moffat's new show Douglas Is Cancelled has been given a premiere date by ITV.

The channel has confirmed that the four-part series will begin on Thursday, June 27 at 9pm on ITV, and will, of course, also be available to stream on ITVX.

The show stars former Who companion and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Karen Gillan, as well as Hugh Bonneville, who acted opposite Gillan in an episode of Who but is more known for things like W1A (which looks like it's coming back) and Downton Abbey (which is officially coming back).

Bonneville leads the show as titular news presenter and national treasure Douglas, while Gillan stars as his co-host Madeline. The series follows what happens when a tweet accuses Douglas of telling "an extremely sexist joke at a wedding", and he's told that things have gone "nuclear" because of his co-host's actions.

What has Madeline done, and what will happen once Douglas is 'cancelled'? You've got just over two weeks until we start to find out.

Beyond the two leads, the cast includes another Gillan-era Who alumni in Alex Kingston, and Ted Lasso and Taskmaster favourite Nick Mohammed, The Crown actor Ben Miles, and The Death of Stalin's Simon Russell Beale.

After handing over the TARDIS keys at the end of 2017, Moffat returned to the newly-dubbed Whoniverse in order to write the current season's third episode, 'Boom', which impressed both reviewers and fans.

He's also penned this year's Christmas special, 'Joy to the World', but recently admitted that he's not sure if it will serve as his swansong.

"It is entirely possible that I won't write [for] Doctor Who again," he said. "I don't know. I mean, after Christmas, I'm not lying. I'm not involved in series two. My contribution, in effect, is the Christmas special.

"I've got quite a lot of things that are coming in for me to do, so I might never write Doctor Who again. What I feel slightly sad about is, even if I do another one, I probably won't know when I've done my last one."

Douglas Is Cancelled begins at 9pm on Thursday, June 27 on ITV and ITVX.
