“Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo remembers a mom in her 40s having a crush on him at 13

This world is turning upside down.

Here’s exhibit number one million for why we should stop making children famous:

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo says a middle-aged woman hit on him when he was a young teen. On Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, the actor, now 21, recalled one of his most disturbing fan interactions. “This woman in her 40s said straight up, she goes, ‘I’ve had a crush on you since you were 13,’ and I was like, ‘That’s upsetting!’” Matarazzo said on the podcast.

And no, we shouldn’t give her the benefit of the doubt. “[I thought] like, ‘I’m sure she just meant, like, “Aw this kid’s cute,”’” Matarazzo recalled. “But then she doubled down. Like, ‘I’m aware of the age difference,’ and then I was like, ‘Alright.’”

The actor also said that another fan’s presence made the experience even more uncomfortable — which is saying a lot, as it was profoundly uncomfortable to begin with. “Her daughter was with her,” Matarazzo revealed. “And her daughter goes, ‘Mom, what the f---?’ I swear to God, this girl must have been like 13, and she goes, ‘Mom, what the f---?’”

After Rosenbaum said that numerous fans have inappropriately touched him over the years, Matarazzo added, “I’ve had a few butt grabs for sure.”

Elsewhere in their conversation, Matarazzo explained which kinds of projects he wants to prioritize in his future career to expand his horizons. “I want to do things where I look and I say, ‘No one's ever going to make anything like this again,” he said. “If I say no, I have to be okay with saying  no to something that I'm I'm never going to  be able to do what this is telling me to do. I read a lot of scripts [where] I'm like ‘I do this on Stranger Things.’ I don't want to go to a different production and do the same thing I've been doing.”

Matarazzo also gushed about working with a childhood hero, Josh Groban, on the recent Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. “Josh is a f---ing gem,” he said. “Josh is really so kind, and very talented of course. But I've been a fan of his since I was very young. He's the reason I sing, and I didn't want to like tell him that straight up. I didn't want him to understand how much his work formed what I do. And thankfully I was able to just not be a weird little fanboy throughout the process because, you know, we worked together for seven months. And he’s a good friend.”
