Strictly Come Dancing confirms tennis star for 2023 line-up
Strictly Come Dancing has confirmed the fourteenth celebrity for the upcoming season 21 of the BBC dance contest.
The hit show has added another sports star to the cast this year, as Annabel Croft will be swapping the tennis court for the dance floor.
Croft was announced as a contestant on Thursday (August 10) morning on Virgin Radio's Breakfast show.
"I am beyond excited. I've always loved this magical, magical show," Croft told Ricky Wilson, who's filling in for Chris Evans while he's on holiday.
"I'm also a bit terrified at the same time!"
The former British Number One tennis player, who famously at 15 years old was the youngest British player to compete at Wimbledon for 95 years, will be battling it out on the dance floor this year.
"I have always loved watching Strictly and can’t quite believe I’m going to be part of this magical show – swapping tennis balls for glitter balls and looking forward to finding some joyfulness in the process," Croft added in a statement.
Croft will be joining an already jam-packed cast on the dance floor for the 21st season of Strictly.
There are several famous faces from the world of acting set battle it out for the Glitterball Trophy this year including: Coronation Street star Ellie Leach, Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, Emmerdale and Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas, and EastEnders and Casualty actor Nigel Harman.
Paralympian Jody Cundy, BBC Asian Network breakfast show presenter Nikita Kanda, Love Island's Zara McDermott, Bad Education star and West End actor Layton Williams, TV presenter Angela Scanlon, journalist Angela Rippon, news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, and comedian Eddie Kadi are also set to compete in the star-studded dance contest.
More stars are expected to be announced in the 2023 Strictly line-up over the coming days.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
