Strictly star Craig Revel Horwood has admitted his new foray into music feels "exposing".

The TV judge has unveiled a single, which is a cover of Dame Shirley Bassey’s This Is My Life, and has an album called Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing in the pipeline. But having become so well known for dance, he confessed that he is battling the nerves about switching lanes.

He opened up on The One Show on Monday (17 June) after a clip of him singing was played, telling the BBC show's host Alex Jones: "I am nervous, I really am."

He went on: "It is really exposing, it is. You dance all your life and then suddenly you are using your voice."

"I am very nervous, I have got to say," continued Horwood, who has been a judge on the BBC ballroom show since it started back in 2004. "Because I am not known for anything like this really... but I loved doing this and it has been part of my life forever because I have been in musicals."

"It has been fantastic because singing for me is just joyful, you know," said the star. "I just absolutely love it and I have done this all my life in musicals.

"I am thrilled and delighted that someone was actually going to put some money in and actually do it!"

Horwood also told how his upcoming album was full of songs that he otherwise would not have had the chance to sing on stage.

He explained: "I have chosen songs from musical theatre... I thought, 'I really want to sing all of these wonderful songs from musicals, that I will never ever get to play.' I am not going to be Eponine in Les Miserables, I will never be Nancy in Oliver.

"So I thought, 'Right I am going to sing her song darling, I am going to sing all of those!'

"And that's what I've done. I have just chosen songs that I really love singing in the shower and screaming."

Horwood - who is also embarking on a 53-date UK tour in 2025 - shared that making the album had been a "big challenge" for him. "Not only emotionally but technically," he told the hosts.

Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing will be released on October 18.
