Strictly stars confirmed for first ever Celebrity Escape to the Country

The line-up for the first ever series of Celebrity Escape to the Country has been announced and includes some Strictly Come Dancing stars.

The new spin-off of the original BBC house-hunting show will consist of five episodes, following a host of famous faces hoping to relocate to the countryside.

Strictly pros and married couple Aljaž Škorjanec and Janette Manrara join fellow Strictly alum Doctor Ranj Singh, I'm a Celebrity winner Christopher Biggins, Bucks Fizz's Cheryl Baker and The Chase star Jenny Ryan.

The celebrities will explore the beautiful landscapes of the Home Counties, Cheshire, the Peak District, Lancashire, Kent and Sussex.

Escape to the Country first aired in 2002, making it the BBC's longest running property show to date. The beloved series follows urban homeowners in their search for a quieter life in the country.

"Escape to the Country has been a staple in the BBC daytime schedule for 21 years," said Commissioning Editor of BBC Daytime and Factual, Julie Shaw.

"Audiences love this programme and watching the journeys the house-hunters go on, so it was about time we got to go house hunting with some famous faces. I can't wait for this to land in the schedules."

John Comerford, Head of the show's production company Naked West, added: "We love helping prospective rural dwellers find their dream homes and we're delighted the BBC have commissioned this special series giving us all an insight into our favourite celebrities' lives as they look to swap the city for a new home in the country."

Celebrity Escape to the Country will air in December on BBC One and iPlayer.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
