Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon has explained why her exit felt like a “full circle” moment.

The presenter and her professional partner Kai Widdrington became the latest couple to be eliminated from the series, with the duo losing out to Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell in Sunday’s (November 19) dance-off.

Angela’s final dance came in the Tower Ballroom at Blackpool, with the star explaining that her history of presenting Come Dancing meant that it was a fitting moment to bow out from the series.

“It was lovely to be back,” she told Fleur East on It Takes Two. “We made a little video where I walked down The Cake, as we call it, and said, ‘Good evening and welcome to Come Dancing.’ It was quite fun to relive those memories.

“What was also smashing was talking to the professionals – for many of them their parents or teachers had been competitors when I was presenting. It was fascinating to get that full circle - having been a presenter in Blackpool I was now a dancer there.”

Saturday’s episode marked the first occasion that Kai had danced at the Tower Ballroom with a celebrity, and the professional revealed that being able to partner with Angela was a special occasion.

“Getting to Blackpool is a massive achievement but to do it with Angela, the icon and the legend, was special,” he said. “It was emotional that we got eliminated but it somehow felt right – we both have our own histories with Blackpool so it was good to share one.”

There was also a surprise for the celebrity during the episode, with Fleur introducing heart-warming video messages from Angela’s Rip Off Britain co-stars Gloria Hunniford and Julia Somerville.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
