Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron confirms UK release this year
Studio Ghibli's new movie The Boy and the Heron is set to debut at the London Film Festival next month.
Deadline reports that the film's UK rights have been bought by Elysian Film Group, Anonymous Content and Bleecker Street, with Elysian releasing the film in UK cinemas later this year.
The film is Oscar-winner Hayao Miyazaki's first project since 2013's The Wind Rises and is loosely based on the 1937 novel How Do You Live? by Yoshino Genzaburō.

The Boy and the Heron had its international premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last week, becoming the first animated film to open the festival.
It quickly debuted with a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising it as complex and a fitting addition to Miyazaki's legacy.
In Japan the film was given a surprise release in July, under the title How Do You Live, without any traditional promotion, however it still managed to set a box office record during its opening weekend.

In the US, The Boy and the Heron will be released in cinemas on December 8, following special previews from November 22.
The film's synopsis reads: "A young boy named Mahito, yearning for his mother, ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning.
"A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki."
The Boy and the Heron is released in US cinemas on December 8, following special previews from November 22. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
