The meaning behind Princess Eugenie’s unusual baby name
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed their son into the world earlier this month and finally revealed his name this weekend, alongside a picture.
“We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” Princess Eugenie announced on Instagram.
“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express.”
While August might seem like an unusual choice for a royal, there’s a lot of sentiment behind it.
The couple named their son after Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert, who had Augustus as a middle name, Eugenie explained on her Instagram stories. Prince Albert is August's great-great-great-great-great grandfather.
The baby's second name, Philip, pays homage to Eugenie's grandfather and August's great-grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.
“He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers," Eugenie told her followers.
"On his grandfather's birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy," she continued.
Eugenie and Jack welcomed their son on 9 February. He is the Queen's ninth great-grandchild, and 12th in line to the throne.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the baby was delivered at The Portland Hospital at 08:55am in the morning, weighing 8lbs 10z.
