Succession actress Crystal Finn has spoken out about a terrifying otter attack that left her needing hospital treatment.

HBO viewers may recognise the star from the hit drama’s fourth and final season, which reached its dramatic conclusion earlier this year, where she played ATN producer Lauren Pawson.

Chatting openly about the frightening incident that occurred in July, the actress explained she was swimming in Northern California’s Feather River when the three otters appeared.

Reflecting on the attack in a new interview, Finn detailed how the events unfolded.

"I felt something on my backside and on my leg," the actress told the San Francisco Chronical. "I started looking around and yelling out and [the otters] popped up right in front of me. Then they dove down and started going at me again."

Finn went on to explain the attack continued as she attempted to swim towards the shore as the three otters "dove back down" and began biting her once more.

Thankfully she was eventually able to scramble onto dry land but had sustained multiple injuries.

"I could see the bites on my legs and knew I had been bitten on my butt – that one was the worst, but I couldn’t see it," she recalled. "The bites really hurt."

Finn revealed she received treatment for bite injuries at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee following the incident.

The actress noted she hadn’t seen the otters before entering the water but wouldn’t have expected them to be dangerous even if she had.

"If I had seen them, I don’t think it would have given me pause," Finn explained. "I would have thought, 'Oh those cute river otters'."

Otter attacks are considered rare as the mammals are not usually known for targeting humans.

Succession aired on HBO in the US, and is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
