Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has ruled out a spin-off for the award-winning show.

The comedy drama series, which recently scored multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards, ended with its fourth and final season in 2023.

While spin-offs have been hinted at – including for cousin Greg Hirsch – Armstrong told BBC Radio 4's Today on Friday (January 19) that it "doesn't feel like the most interesting thing to do to me".

He then added that he'd "written them [the characters] enough now".

Other stars of the show, including Matthew Macfayden (Tom Wambsgans), has also echoed Armstrong's sentiments.

At the Emmy Awards – during which co-star Kieran Culkin picked up an award – he said: "I would never say never, but highly unlikely... it would all depend on what Jesse Armstrong wanted to do.

"But Jesse's instinct, and all our instinct is that it ended in the right place. We didn't tie it up, we left them to just carry on in their strange and frightening world.

"As nice as it would be to work with everybody again, I think it would be strange to do a spin-off. But who knows?"

HBO executives have previously said there is "no intention" to make a Succession spin-off.

"Jesse, should he do a series again, I think it will be entirely original. Whether it's based on IP or not, I'm not sure, but it will be a new show, a new idea entirely," HBO's head of drama Francesca Orsi said.

"There is maybe sadness in that I don't have the opportunity to build something with him," she continued, "at least not for now."

Succession season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
