Suki Waterhouse Cried the 'Instant' She Learned She Was Having a Girl: 'Wish I Hadn't Wanted to Find Out'

The singer and actress welcomed her first baby with fiancé Robert Pattinson in March

Suki Waterhouse is looking back on a pivotal moment in her pregnancy journey.

Speaking with British Vogue for their August cover story, the singer and actress, 32, shared that one of the only things she did to prepare to welcome her newborn baby was learn what sex she'd be having.

"I wish I hadn't wanted to find out," Waterhouse admits. "But I needed to prepare myself mentally."

The new mom says that the "instant" she learned she was having a girl, she called her mom "in a flood of tears."

"I was like, 'Oh my God, am I going to have to go through what [you] went through with me?'" Waterhouse recalled asking her mom. "I was just such a little bitch. [My mum] usually loves telling my terrible teenager stories, but she was like, 'No, no you were great. You were amazing, you were fine.'"

Since having her daughter, Waterhouse says she has a deep appreciation for her own mother, noting that she often tells her, "You are incredible and I don't know how you had four kids under eight."

Waterhouse and fiancé Robert Pattinson, 38, welcomed their first baby together in March. Shortly after her daughter's arrival, the actress got candid about how she was feeling as she entered the "fourth trimester."

In April, Waterhouse shared a series of mirror selfies on her Instagram wearing an open cardigan and baring her belly in a pair of Frida Mom Postpartum Underwear and a bralette.

She took a minute to honor her postpartum experience in her caption, noting that the adjustment to being a new mom had been challenging.

"The fourth trimester has been… humbling! the postpartum period has been filled with exhilarating joy, so much laughter, tears, so many hormones!" Waterhouse wrote.

"I’m proud of everything my body has achieved and proud of the kindness and grace I’ve given myself during this recovery period. 💕."

The August issue of British Vogue is available via digital download and on newsstands from Tuesday, July 16.
