SunSprite: the wearable, solar-powered light tracker

Ever wondered how much bright light you need each day to maximize health benefits? SunSprite, a new piece of wearable tech, has the answer.

Science has proven bright light benefits health and improves mood, but most adults don't get the light they need. (Seasonal depression, anyone?) The folks behind SunSprite, a wearable, solar-powered light tracker, hope to solve this issue.

SunSprite works by tracking light/sun exposure and measuring UV intensity, which is helpful if energy levels need a boost, or if you're looking to increase vitamin D levels or avoid sunburn. Use SunSprite on its own or sync it with your smartphone -- the device itself is about the size of a key. If going the smartphone route, you'll enjoy a personalized set of sun exposure goals, as well as healthy lifestyle tips ensuring you receive the right amount of sunlight along with the best times to bask.

The app is currently designed for the iPhone, and an Android-friendly version is coming soon.

A completely solar-powered device, SunSprite is battery, cord and plug-free. Its flexible magnetic clip allows you to attach it to any piece of clothing.

Another benefit of receiving enough light may be improved sleep, as bright light helps regulate melatonin, the sleep hormone. Bright light exposure has also been linked to body fat reduction, lower blood pressure and strong vitamin D levels.

SunSprite is currently in crowdfunding mode on Indiegogo and is a stone's throw from its monetary goal.
