A 20-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of a 26-year-old man, who was found dead outside a sixth-floor unit at Block 279 Yishun Street 22.

The police said that a call for assistance at the location – outside a sixth-floor unit in the block – had been received at 7:57pm on Saturday (9 July) and that paramedics pronounced the man dead at 8:29pm that night.

A Channel NewsAsia (CNA) report said that “both men had been involved in a prior dispute” and that “no weapon was used in the incident”.

According to The Straits Times, the arrested man’s sister said the two men knew each other and claimed that her brother had been “stalked” by the deceased “over the last two years”.

“I don’t know why he started doing this. He would bang loudly on the door and ask for my brother, and my brother would tell him to go away,” she said.

A fifth-floor resident of the block told CNA that he had heard a “loud bang” at 7:45pm that night but was unsure of what had happened, while a sixth-floor resident claimed that she had been “attacked” by the deceased on Wednesday (6 July) night.

Another neighbour said he had first noticed the 26-year-old man two years ago and said the deceased would loiter at the block’s void deck “up to four times a week”.

Police are looking into the case of “unnatural death” and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
