Suspect charged with culpable homicide over death of Andrew Lees in Renfrew

A man has been charged with culpable homicide following the death of a "much-loved son" who was found unresponsive in a Renfrewshire street.

Andrew Lees, 27, was discovered in Newmains Road, Renfrew, at around 2.30am on Sunday 5 November.

Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Following Mr Lees' death, his family said: "Andrew was a much-loved son who will be sorely missed every day by all who knew him."

On Friday, Police Scotland charged a suspect in connection with the incident.

Leon Beagan, 26, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday where he faced the single charge of culpable homicide.

Beagan, of Renfrew, made no plea and was granted bail.

His next court appearance is yet to be confirmed.

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie said: "Our thoughts are very much with Andrew's family and we are providing them with support at what is a very difficult time for them.

"They have asked for their privacy to be respected."
