Superhero movie Samaritan starring Sylvester Stallone is set to get a sequel.

The original Prime Video movie was released last year, and follows a child who believes his neighbour is a superhero who disappeared 20 years beforehand.

It is now being reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a follow-up is in the works, with original writer Bragi F Schut back to oversee the screenplay.

Stallone, who also co-produced the first movie, is also set to return in the main role of Joe Smith alongside his job as a producer.

The first movie also starred Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy's Javon Walton, as well as Game of Thrones' Pilou Asbæk and Orange is the New Black's Dascha Polanco.

In Digital Spy's review, we said: "Stallone and Walton try to bring Samaritan to life and they have some fun scenes together. However, there's only so much they can do when asked to deliver lines such as: 'People gotta get rid of their own problems or their problems get rid of them.'

"It's always welcome when somebody tries to do something new with a well-trodden genre such as superheroes. You'll just end up wishing that Samaritan went all-out and followed its own path, rather than trying to evoke everything that's come before."

In other news, Stallone recently paid tribute to Rocky co-star Burt Young following the Paulie Pennino actor's death aged 83.

"To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man and artist, I and the World will miss you very much...RIP," he wrote on Instagram.

Samaritan is available to watch now on Prime Video. A release date for the sequel is yet to be confirmed.
