T.J. Holmes is getting candid about whether he would ever return to Good Morning America.

The former GMA3: What You Need to Know anchor, 46, revealed on the latest episode of the Amy & T.J. Podcast, released Thursday, that if he was ever invited back to the show, he would have a lot of questions about returning.

“There’s a lot of ifs in there, and does that include working with you?” Holmes told his co-host and partner Amy Robach. “Does that include working with some of the same folks that are still there? That would involve a lot…”

He went on to say that in general, he “can't see a path” to returning to the ABC show.

“Obviously nobody over there is thinking about us coming back, but I couldn't set up a scenario that actually makes sense,” he added.

Holmes and Robach, 51, were placed on a hiatus from the show in December 2022, a month after the news broke about their relationship. The network launched an investigation and in January 2023, ABC confirmed to PEOPLE that the pair would not be returning to the show.

"After several productive conversations with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes about different options, we all agreed it's best for everyone that they move on from ABC News. We recognize their talent and commitment over the years and are thankful for their contributions," an ABC spokesperson said in a statement at the time.

While launching their podcast in December 2023, Holmes described himself and Robach as "the folks who lost the jobs we love because we love each other."

Robach added that despite having "gone through a year of hell" after their relationship was initially discovered, she and Holmes had forged "the most beautiful relationship I’ve ever had in my life.”

"In the end, all of us are always rooting for love," she said on the podcast. "It doesn’t always happen when you want it to happen, where you want it happen. And it's undeniable when it’s real and it’s something you have to navigate and it’s not easy."

She added, "Relationships are hard, they’re messy, they’re not perfect, but we have fought for love, and I can say I have never been happier. I am with my best friend."
