Taiwanese-Korean singer Bii drops hints about new album and Singapore concert
Taiwanese-Korean singer-songwriter Bii has already carved out a successful singing career in the Mandopop scene, and is actively working on his next challenge: acting.
Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore, Bii, whose Chinese name is Bi Shu Jin, revealed that he is currently involved in an acting project, but would not say if he is filming a TV drama or movie.
When asked if he was interested in appearing in Korean movies and dramas, Bii said, “Of course! If I have the chance, I would like to appear in either a Korean drama or movie, and definitely variety shows too.”
The 27-year-old also spoke about wanting to work with popular K-drama actors Song Joong-ki and especially Park Hyung-sik, whom he interviewed for a Chinese programme back in 2014. Park is known for his roles in “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon” and “Hwarang”.
As for which Korean singers he would like to collaborate with, Bii chose legendary ballad singer Lee Seung-cheol and BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, whom he regarded as having an “almost god-like status”.
Difficulties with Mandarin
Born to a Taiwanese father and a Korean mother, Bii admitted that he regrets not picking up Mandarin when he was younger.
“If I did [learn Mandarin earlier], I would have been able to adapt to life here [in Taiwan] faster. Even now, I still face the problem of understanding the language, but other than that, everything is okay,” said Bii, who has been based in Taiwan since 2010.
Growing up in Korea, Bii did not learn Mandarin until he went to Taiwan to pursue a singing career.
He said his Mandarin improved significantly after serving his mandatory military service in Taiwan. His mastery of the language also motivated him to add a new dimension to his upcoming album. He said, “Unlike previous albums where I wrote my raps in Korean, I am challenging myself to write them in Mandarin this time.” He added that the new album will have a mix of EDM and ballads.
First concert in Singapore
After one and a half years, Bii will be back in Singapore for his “Bii With You LIVE in Singapore 2017” concert on 17 June.
Though he doesn’t plan on inviting any special guests to his concert, he does promise to bring “presents” for fans who watch him perform at the Star Theatre.
He hinted that fans might even get to hear songs from the upcoming album.
“I have a lot to say and show my fans after being away for so long. So other than a ‘talk session’ with them, I will also be bringing in a live band and am carefully choosing which songs to perform so they can best enjoy my music,” he said.
With new music on the horizon, hopefully his fans will be in for a Bii-g surprise in June.
