We Need to Talk About That ‘And Just Like That’ Season 2 Premiere—Especially Those Last 15 Seconds

Aidan is back. Samantha is back. Che Diaz memes are likely to be back. Yes, folks, that’s because And Just Like That… is finally back.

The first episodes of season two of the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That…, hit Max this morning—and we didn’t realize just how much we’d missed the gals (and their clothes). We’ve been posting theories about what could happen for months and months, but now we’re finally getting some well-deserved answers.

All of our faves are back from the get-go—Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), LTW (Nicole Ari Parker) and Seema (Sarita Choudhury)—but any good AJLT fan knows we’ll have to wait ‘til the season finale to get that much-hyped glimpse at Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall).

But now that the premiere is here, we’ve got one thing we want to talk about—the last 15 seconds of the episode when Carrie re-wears her wedding dress.

Expectations were high for the premiere episode of season two. After all, the season one premiere ended with the shocking death of a beloved character (played by a highly problematic actor). But luckily, the sophomore season is seriously delivering.

Carrie is having fun on Thursdays. Miranda seems to have made the right choice with L.A. (sensory deprivation tanks not withstanding). Charlotte is, well, being Charlotte.

And then we get that final scene where Carrie’s Met Ball dress is caput, and she needs a solution fast. “And just like that…I repurposed my pain.” Carrie pulls out her wedding dress, adds a brand-new cape and voila…we suddenly know that season two is going to be great.

If every fun, funny and sexy moment in the premiere episode hadn’t already reassured us, this final glimpse of Carrie moving on from the trauma and heartache of season one did. The symbolism couldn’t be clearer. This transformation simultaneously acknowledges the ups and (mostly) downs of the show’s initial season, where Carrie mourned the loss of her husband, while also paving a path forward, one we already know will be filled with new and old flames and plenty of fashion.

In this moment, we get a meaningful nod to the previous AJLT season (that not all SATC fans loved) and the pain Carrie felt at losing Big. Yet we also get an homage to the OG series (or more specifically the movies) and the pain Carrie felt the first time she donned the dress. And it becomes quite clear that Carrie is moving on. She isn’t forgetting about her pain, she is repurposing it. *Goosebumps*

With an 11-episode season two, we’re so excited about what this means for our favorite leading lady (and us loyal fans at home).
