The season 17 grand finale (May 30) saw Robins take the crown, beating Sophie Willan, Nick Mohammed, Joanne McNally and Steve Pemberton.

The stand up had not one curry, but three! "I celebrated by having three curries... which I am currently really really really regretting," he said.

Discussing his time on the show, Robins said: "I laughed a lot and smiled a lot."

He then thanked fans for their support and added: "They do have a really nice fanbase, that show. Really nice family-oriented people who are really into it."

He also received messages from past Taskmaster contestants, including former winner Josh Widdicombe, who said: "John, you've been absolutely brilliant on Taskmaster. Your creativity and humour have been a joy to watch. Congratulations on a well-deserved win!"

Season 17 may have only just finished, but Alex Horne and Greg Davies already have their next crop of celebrity contestants lined-up.

Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones will be put through their paces when the show returns.

Dee's casting in particular will delight Horne, who previously told Digital Spy that Dee was his dream contestant.

"I say this every time anyone asks me this question, I think it's the only way to persuade him to do it. So Jack, if you're listening, please do the show," he told us.

Taskmaster season 18 airs later this year on Channel 4.
