Tay Ying hard-launches rumoured boyfriend of 3 years, Wu Sihan; mum Hong Huifang calls him 'the ideal dating partner'
The Singapore actress and her parents had previously remained tight-lipped about her boyfriend, the head chef of a family-run bistro turned Mediacorp artiste.
New year, new love? In an Instagram post on Wednesday (3 Jan), local actress Tay Ying finally hard-launched her boyfriend, chef-turned-artiste Wu Sihan. The post had a photo of them in a loving embrace accompanied by the caption, “Stepping into another new year together.”
Tay is 28 while Wu is 32. The latter is the head chef of his family-run bistro Supply and Demand, and signed on as an artiste with Mediacorp’s The Celebrity Agency in April 2023.
The twist, though, is that the duo had been rumoured to be dating for years, but the speculations were never confirmed until now.
Went on Australia trip, but never appeared together
According to a Lianhe Zaobao report, rumours swirled as early as August 2022, when photos of their Australia trip - posted separately - featured the same things, like the car or the window stickers.
However, both Tay and Wu never appeared in the photos together.
When approached by the Chinese daily in April 2023 after receiving a credible tip-off, the actress and her mother, veteran actress Hong Huifang, remained tight-lipped.
During an April interview with 8days, it was reported that Wu’s manager shut down any questions relating to his personal life, including confirmation on the dating rumour.
Parents Zheng Geping and Hong Huifang wish them a lasting relationship
Speaking to 8world on 3 Jan, Tay’s parents - actor Zheng Geping and Hong - only had positive things to say about the relationship and Wu.
Hong, 62, said she was "very happy for them" when she saw that Tay was able to find a partner that she liked, got along with, and could co-operate with at work.
She added, “Sihan is a young man who is very motivated, responsible, caring and filial. In addition, he is handsome and full of sunshine. He is the ideal dating partner. The more I see him, the more I like him!”
Zheng, 59, said, “They finally announced their relationship. Sihan has a very sunny disposition, handsome with a celebrity face, and exudes a lot of positive energy. You could say we hit it off right away.
“Maybe he needs to take care of his own career, too. I think he is more mature and stable than his peers, has his own ideas and opinions, and is responsible. Of course, he is also caring and filial to his elders.”
Zheng shared, “Huifang and I wish them a lasting relationship, but when it comes to affairs of the heart, they still have to manage it by themselves. How it develops in the future is not decided by others!”
