Western European Dota 2 powerhouse Team Secret announced on Friday (2 December) that they have signed former Gaimin Gladiators midlaner Miroslav "BOOM" Bičan to complete their roster for the upcoming 2022-2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season.

BOOM will be replacing Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, who left Secret after four successful years on the squad.

BOOM played for Gaimin Gladiators during the 2021-2022 DPC season, helping the team become one of the strongest teams in an ever-competitive Western European regional league.

The Czech midlaner helped Gaimin Gladiators finish second in the Winter and Spring Tour regional leagues, fourth in the ESL One Stockholm Major, and take the championship of the Western European Winter Regional Finals.

BOOM also helped Gaimin Gladiators earn a direct invite to The International 11 (TI11), where the team finished in 9th-12th place after losing to regional rivals OG in the third round of the lower bracket. He left Gamin Gladiators in late October.

BOOM will have some big shoes to fill as the replacement for Nisha, who was crucial in Secret's incredible run to a second place finish at TI11.

Secret said in a statement that BOOM is "just the spark" the team needs as they continue to chase that elusive Aegis of Champions.

"The road ahead is likely to be filled with adjustments, but we anticipate that BOOM is just the spark Team Secret needs to ignite a firestorm in the European region and the DPC 2022-23 season," said Secret.

Secret captain Clement "Puppey" Ivanov added that BOOM will be "a great fit" for the team as a hungry and talented player.

"BOOM is a skilled midlaner that has progressed year after year. Talking to him was a pleasant and confidence assuring experience. He is young, hungry, talented and think he will be a great fit to the team," said Puppey.

Secret's signing of BOOM is the latest of many developments in the global Dota 2 scene's ongoing post-TI11 roster shuffle.

With so much of the Dota 2 competitive scene cantered around TI and its multimillion-dollar prize pools, most teams are formed with the goal of getting to the game's world championship tournament in a bid to claim the Aegis of Champions and the lion's share of the massive prize.

But only one team can win TI, with Tundra Esports being crowned as the champions of TI11 this year.

With that, the rest of the scene are now scrambling to assemble the best rosters possible to try again next year.
