Ted Lasso season 3 spoilers follow.

Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed has given hope for his character Nate Shelley's redemption arc.

While Nate infamously betrayed Ted (Jason Sudeikis) and Richmond at the end of the last season to go and manage rivals West Ham, season 3 has shown glimpses of possible redemption.

Taking to his Twitter account to respond to those asking him to justify Nate's character arc, Mohammed reminded fans that while he understands why fans are angry about his betrayal of Ted and the Richmond team, the series is fictional.

"Quickest of reminders that #TedLasso is still a work of fiction!" he wrote. "But to those demanding I justify Nate's arc... Has he done enough to redeem himself: no. Does him saying no to Rupert offer hope: yes.

"But I understand why so many of you are angry. I, personally, remain curious," the actor added.

Earlier this month, Mohammed admitted to feeling "quite lonely" filming his season 3 storyline, especially after being away from the other major characters at Richmond.

"He's out in the desert at the moment, isn't he?" he told Entertainment Weekly. "Sadly, he has chosen to leave Richmond in the way that he did, and he is absolutely out on a limb, he's a fish out of water.

"From a practical point of view, some of that stuff was quite lonely to film, because obviously I'm not [shooting] with the gang.

"We try to use as much of that feeling of loneliness and abandonment and channel it into Nate, because that is precisely what he's feeling."

Speaking further about Nate's relationship with Jade (Edyta Budnik), Mohammed added: "There's a spark of a relationship. Whether he's redeemed is a whole different story.

"I don't think it's as black and white as he's definitely redeemed or he's definitely not redeemed. It's a bit more nuanced than that."

Ted Lasso season 3 streams on Apple TV+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
