Ted Lasso season three spoilers follow.

Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed has admitted he's felt "quite lonely" filming his storyline for Nate Shelley in season three.

The former kit man-turned-coach infamously betrayed Ted (Jason Sudeikis) and Richmond at the end of season two, and has since moved to West Ham for season three as head coach.

While he's been having a successful turn running the rival team, Nate has been largely detached from the goings-on at AFC Richmond and its core characters – something that Mohammed has admitted feels a bit isolating.

"He's out in the desert at the moment, isn't he?" he told Entertainment Weekly. "Sadly, he has chosen to leave Richmond in the way that he did, and he is absolutely out on a limb, he's a fish out of water.

"From a practical point of view, some of that stuff was quite lonely to film, because obviously I'm not [shooting] with the gang.

"We try to use as much of that feeling of loneliness and abandonment and channel it into Nate, because that is precisely what he's feeling."

Despite his villainous turn, there have been sparks of a redemption arc for Nate in the show's latest episodes, not least as he begins dating Jade (Edyta Budnik) after finally asking the hostess at his favourite restaurant out.

"There's a spark of a relationship. Whether he's redeemed is a whole different story," Mohammed went on to tease. "I don't think it's as black and white as he's definitely redeemed or he's definitely not redeemed. It's a bit more nuanced than that."

Speaking last month about his character's arc, Mohammed admitted to Digital Spy that the reaction from fans was "quite visceral".

Ted Lasso season 3 streams on Apple TV+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
