“Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood's fiancé reported missing in N.C., police investigating

Gary Wayt was last seen Sunday in Bryson City.

North Carolina police are investigating after Teen Mom star Amber Portwood's fiancé Gary Wayt was reported missing.

Bryson City Police Department said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that Wayt — who is described as 39 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 205 pounds, and "bald with brown eyes" — was last seen Sunday in the Arlington Ave. area of Bryson City. The post says Wayt drives a grey 2009 Nissan Rogue with Indiana registration plates, and anyone with information is urged to call police at 828-488-2196.

A rep for Portwood did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment, but according to Us Weekly, the reality star is "distraught" and "worried" for her fiancé. The outlet reports that the two were in North Carolina for a family wedding at the time of his disappearance.

“They were spending several days in the Smoky Mountains,” a source told Us. “On Sunday, June 9, they had a conversation that turned emotional. Gary left in the car without her and in the process, he left his cell phone behind.”

“He should have been home by now if he was driving [back] home to Indiana. It doesn’t appear he has been to their house in Indiana,” the source added. “Amber is distraught. She has friends helping to locate him.”

The outlet claims Portwood reported her fiancé missing to police on Monday. “She doesn’t know where he is,” the source claimed. “She hasn’t heard from him and he hasn’t communicated with her or his family.”

The news comes just days after the couple reportedly got engaged. The engagement took place "within the last two weeks," with Wayt proposing with a ring featuring "a family stone that was reset into a new ring," according to a separate Us Weekly report dated June 7. That report stated that the two were in couple's therapy, and "being very proactive in their relationship, and are doing the work to prevent problems before they start.”

Portwood first shot to fame in MTV's 16 and Pregnant before starring in all four seasons of spinoff Teen Mom. Both series documented her struggles with domestic violence, substance abuse, and her mental health. In 2012, she started a 17-month prison sentence for domestic violence charges, and she's since had several other brushes with the law.
