The Acolyte has shed light on Osha and Mae's (Amandla Stenberg) past, revealing what really happened when the twins and their coven were visited by Jedi when they were children.

Fans of the Disney+ Star Wars series previously saw the events through Osha's point of view in episode 3, titled Destiny, with the unreliable narrator coming into play as viewers were only given half the story. Episode 7 uncovered the full truth, and in the process revealed dark secrets that Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) has been harbouring all this time.

Fans were besides themselves over the plot twists that were revealed in the episode, but before we reveal what happened and why viewers are excited by it fair warning, this article contains spoilers for The Acolyte episode 7.

The newest episode of The Acolyte revealed that Jedi Masters Sol, Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss), Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) and Torbin (Dean-Charles Chapman) travelled to Brendok on a scouting mission, seeking to find out why the seemingly uninhabited planet was so full of life.

During the search Torbin grew homesick and Sol spoke of a how the planet was the site of a Vergence — the possibility of creating life using the Force. When he went scouting on his own Sol discovers Osha, Mae, and their coven, and becomes drawn to Osha because he feels she should be his Padawan.

Despite Indara's insistence that the group should not meddle any further, or try to take Osha away from her family, Sol insists that she is in danger, and when he and Torbin go back to the coven everything descends into chaos. Sol kills Mae and Osha's mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith), and Indara incapacitates the other members of the sisterhood.

Sol later encounters Osha and Mae who are both in danger, at first he tries to save both but ultimately decides to focus on Osha, leaving Mae to plummet to her apparent death and taking Osha in. Rather than tell her the truth, Sol and the other Jedi decide to tell her that Mae set a fire that was responsible for their mothers deaths, as well as the loss of the coven.

Viewers were blown away by the way the episode changed their understanding of events, sharing their thoughts on social media platform X.

One viewer wrote: "That episode was everything I could have hoped for in terms of character and theme. Those revelations were riveting, and they all show how strong of a grasp Leslye Headland & her team have on these complex ideas of intent, empathy, guilt, and choice."

Meanwhile, there was one person who wrote: "the entire Brendok incident happening because Sol kept pushing and pushing (his own agenda) and wouldn't let it go vs. Indara being the one who was cautious, diplomatic, and prone to leave them alone is so complex and unexpected, I love it".

Another viewer likened Sol's actions to that of The Stranger, aka Qimir (Manny Jacinto), earlier in the season, saying that the two are essentially the same: "sol and qimir both wanting an ‘acolyte’ is fascinating and hammers home qimir’s semantics point. because sol is a jedi, we must ignore the fact he is a dishonest killer? while because qimir is sith we should disregard his honesty? desire is leading both in the end."

One viewer praised the show after its most recent episode, writing: "#TheAcolyte continues to blow me away. One of the absolute best #StarWars series. Leslye Headland and her team really said AJAB and I love it."

Celebrating the episode, another person said: "Just finished the new episode of #TheAcolyte and they are COOKING, some of those reveals had my jaw dropped. Completely redefined everything we knew, really excited to see how it all wraps up next week. I’m not ready for this show to end Also the choreography here was INSANE."

The episode also continued to prove how impressive the fight choreography is on the show, with a battle between Sol, Kelnacca and Torbin being lauded by viewers for how intricate it was.

One viewer simply wrote: "The fight choreography on the Acolyte is top tier", while another person added: "The cinematography and fight choreography and music this episode was soooo good!! This might be the best episode yet".

There was also one person who shared a still from the episode showing Lee's Master Sol in the air mid-jump as he avoided Kelnacca's lightsaber, writing: "so we all agree this is THEE shot #TheAcolyte".

This is not the first time that The Acolyte has been praised for its fight choreography, the series was also celebrated for its action sequences when episode 5 was released and consisted almost entirely of fight scenes. In it, the Jedi fought The Stranger and his identity was revealed.

The Acolyte finale will air on Wednesday, 17 July on Disney+.
