Theo James recalls bottle of urine thrown at his face on stage during band days: 'A strange, sweaty, horrible gig'

"At that point I was like, maybe I should try something else."

What's worse: feces in a suitcase or urine in a bottle?

Theo James appeared on Thursday's episode of Kelly Clarkson's eponymous talk show, where they looked back at some of their worst on stage moments as performers. For The White Lotus alum, it involved a bottle of urine during his days as a vocalist and guitarist for the now-disbanded London-formed band Shere Khan.

"I've had lots of things go wrong," James said. "I've had my foot crushed [under] a moving piece of equipment on stage once. I was looking the wrong direction and this roller thing just crushed my entire foot. When I was playing in a band I had a bottle of urine [thrown] at me, which was nice. At that point I was like, maybe I should try something else."

He elaborated to a stunned Clarkson, "It was a strange, sweaty, horrible gig. I think the act before us were late and everyone was kind of inebriated and angry and someone decided that the best way to deal with that was pee in a bottle and throw it at someone's face."

The English actor has been in the midst of promoting Netflix's The Gentlemen, a spin-off series of Guy Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name. It follows James'  aristocratic Eddie as he inherits the family estate and discovers that it's home to a sprawling weed empire.

While discussing the action comedy with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY, James also spoke briefly about his early days in music, sharing that he initially wanted to be a rock star. However, "I had a girlfriend at the time who was auditioning for these drama schools and I went along and it went from there," he shared.
