Thiago Silva admits he’s ‘never seen anything’ like Chelsea’s transfer business as he sends signings warning
Thiago Silva has admitted even if he has been surprised at the level of transfer business done by Chelsea since Todd Boehly’s arrival.
The Blues have spent more than £600million across the summer and January windows, with Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk among the big-money signings to join the club last month.
With so many new players arriving at Stamford Bridge, it has left Graham Potter with plenty of selection issues. Reece James and Ben Chilwell are now back and available, while Wesley Fofana is nearing a return, meaning the Chelsea boss will be forced to leave a number of senior players out of each matchday squad.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been dropped from the Blues’ squad for the Champions League knockout stages, with Benoit Badiashile among those to also miss out as a result of UEFA rules stating only three new signings can be registered.
Chelsea face a crucial Premier League trip to Tottenham in between two legs against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last-16 over the next few weeks, and Silva has warned the club’s latest additions that they need to hit the ground running.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this in my whole career,” the Brazilian told the club’s official website.
“This shows about the ambition of the club, how much the club wants to win. We had a lot of injury problems this year. A lot of new players arrived and that takes time to prepare and get used to.
“We know we’re not having the best season, but I really believe that the positive thing is if we don’t start well, we can finish well.
“So, that’s what we need to learn as a lesson, try to get settled in as soon as possible, because there’s no time left, because the Champions League will start again soon.
“We need everyone to be ready, at the same page, we won’t be at 100 per cent, but the knowledge of each other has to be important at this moment to build chemistry.”
