There’s no sweeter feeling than being the first one to discover a new series before it takes off. We’re talking bragging rights in your friendship group, living without fear of spoilers and being able to form your own opinion before the avalanche of hot takes land on Twitter.

For that reason, you’ll be interested to know that Digital Spy is hosting an exclusive screening of Prime Video's new series, I’m a Virgo, and you can be there in person to enjoy it before it hits everyone’s screens later this month.

I’m a Virgo is different to everything else you’ll have watched this year – in fact maybe ever. We’re calling it. The seven-part coming-of-age-comedy-sci-fi-drama-superhero (yes, really) series tells the story of Cootie, played by Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight), a 13-foot-tall Black teenager and comic-book fan who escapes his sheltered life to experience the “real” world.

It’s best summed up by Cootie himself, who grins: “I’m a Virgo, and Virgos love adventure.” We then go on a journey with him as we see him fall in love, meet his hero, encounter danger, find friendship and experience all the ups and downs that happen when you’re trying to discover who you are. And that all happens with a delightfully surrealist tinge and a lot of heart.

The top-tier cast also includes Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight), Brett Gray (Star Trek: Prodigy), Kara Young (The Punisher), Allius Barnes (PEN15), Olivia Washington (Breaking), Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Carmen Ejogo (True Detective).

I’m a Virgo is already stirring up serious hype, which is no surprise when you realise it’s the brainchild of Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You).

Riley didn’t hold back making the series, shunning CGI in favour of far more laborious tools like a 13-foot puppet to make the universe feel more relatable and lifelike for viewers. He also spoke to Complex about the decision behind the title and how it reflects Cootie’s refreshing fixation on the characteristics that he deems define him – and how they differ to people’s assumptions.

“People see this Black giant coming down the street. They have all sorts of ideas about what he is, what’s important, what they should be scared of, and that may be very different to what he cares for about himself,” Riley explains. “The fact that he is a Virgo is probably the last thing that anybody cares about.”
