A Timeline of Olivia Culpo and 49ers Star Christian McCaffrey's Relationship

Olivia Culpo and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey first sparked dating rumors in May 2019. Soon after, Culpo not-so-subtly confirmed that she and McCaffrey were a couple when she wore his jersey to an NFL game. The next month, they went Instagram official, and from that point on, the two haven't been shy about their romance, with Olivia flaunting her WAG status in the stands and Christian also showing support for her modeling career.

In April 2023, they took their love to the next level and got engaged. The following June, wedding bells rang as the couple tied the knot in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, surrounded by family and friends. Here's a full look back at Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey's relationship.

June 2019: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey go on their first date.

Olivia and Christian were set up by a mutual friend and went on their first date in June 2019, which was followed up by a trip to Mexico the next month. Paparazzi spotted the pair getting cozy, sunbathing and holding hands together outside their private villa.

October 2019: Olivia Culpo confirms she and Christian McCaffrey are a couple.

Over the summer, Olivia and Christian stayed mum about the status of their relationship, but by fall, the former Miss Universe winner let it be known that she only had eyes for Christian when she was spotted at one of his football games wearing his jersey.

February 2020: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey make their red carpet debut.

Making their relationship red carpet official, Olivia and Christian attended the Super Bowl LIV’s NFL Honors in Miami together as a couple. That same month, they celebrated their first Valentine's Day together with loved-up posts on Instagram, with Olivia calling Christian her "best friend" in her tribute.

July 2020: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey adopt a dog.

A year into their relationship, Olivia and Christian expanded their family and adopted a dog, a toy golden doodle named Oliver Sprinkles. As any proud dog mom would, Culpo made Oliver his very own Instagram account.

March 2021: Christian McCaffrey names his boat after Olivia Culpo.

Nearly two years into their relationship, Christian bought a boat, and as a romantic gesture, he named it after his model girlfriend. In a video posted to Culpo's Instagram Story, she asks, "What's the name of the boat?" before flipping the camera to show "The Olivia" written in cursive.

March 2022: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey attend the Vanity Fair Oscars party together.

The couple got all dressed up for a rare public date night at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. For the occasion, Olivia wore a baby pink off-the-shoulder minidress with dramatic ruffles and a train, while Christian traded in his football uniform for a black tux.

October 2022: Olivia Culpo supports Christian McCaffrey's trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

After more than five years as a Carolina Panther, McCaffrey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in October 2022. Culpo reacted to the news on Instagram and gave McCaffrey her unconditional support. "This city stole my heart and I’ll never forget the memories and people who made the last 3+ years so special. I’ll miss you all so much and you’ll always hold a special place in my heart 😭," she wrote alongside a video montage of their time in North Carolina. "I’m so proud of you Christian. Seeing your light shine is one of my favorite things in life and I’m beyond excited and grateful for this next chapter in Cali, the place I’ve called home for the last 8 years ❤️ Niners Nation, let’s go!"

November 2022: Olivia Culpo explains why she broke her "no athletes" dating rule for Christian McCaffrey.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Culpo explained why she decided to give McCaffrey a chance despite him being an athlete. "He's just the best, I feel like he is really everything that I could ever ask for," the model said. "So I never have to worry about anything. I think that was the reason why I didn't want to date an athlete, no offense because there is a reputation there." She continued, "He just comes from a great family. We have a lot in common in that respect. I feel like you can really tell who a person is by the people that raise them, and I just love his parents so much. They have a great relationship."

April 2023: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey get engaged.

After four years of dating, Culpo and McCaffrey took their love to the next level and got engaged. The NFL star popped the question while they were on vacation at Amangiri in Utah, and the couple announced the happy news with a joint post on Instagram. "We tried to keep this quiet for as long as possible but apparently word travels fast," Culpo wrote alongside a slideshow of photos from the proposal. "I'm marrying my best friend, I love you so much, fiancé." A few weeks later, Olivia explained that wedding planning was already underway while on Amazon Live, revealing that the couple's dog, Oliver, will serve as their ring bearer.

June 2024: Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey pick up their marriage license.

After a year-long engagement, the happy couple posted a carousel of wedding-esque photos taken in and around a Rhode Island courthouse. The Instagram post was captioned with a simple heart emoji, but when Culpo reposted the carousel to her Instagram Stories, the model confirmed our suspicions: "marriage license," she wrote, followed by a check mark, a document emoji, and a white heart emoji. The couple arrived in Culpo's home state only two days prior, where they're set to get married the weekend of June 29.

On June 29, Culpo and McCaffrey finally became husband and wife. The couple tied the knot in front of family and friends at a church in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. For the ceremony, Culpo wore a long sleeve Dolce & Gabbana gown. For the reception, she changed into an off-the-shoulder gown with silk flowers along the neckline, also by Dolce & Gabbana. Later, she slipped into a micro-mini afterparty dress with a caged skirt, also crafted by the Italian fashion house.

"I wanted it to feel timeless, effortless, and as if it's complimenting me, not overpowering me." Culpo said of her ceremony dress. “I cried the first time I tried it on. From the very first sketch, this was it for me.”
