Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen are superstars in their respective fields — football and modeling — but none of their accomplishments measure up to becoming parents to their first child together, son Benjamin Rein Brady.

Upon his birth in December 2009, all of their other obligations immediately seemed less important.

"When I was 25, all I did was think about football,” Brady shared on his SiriusXM podcast Let's Go!. “Then, over time, other priorities develop because you change and evolve through life ... different responsibilities, of family and commitment and so forth."

Brady and Bündchen also share a daughter, Vivian Lake Brady, and Brady welcomed his older son, John “Jack” Edward Thomas Moynahan, with actress Bridget Moynahan.

While Brady tried to balance parenthood and his football career, Bündchen devoted herself to caring for Benjamin and their other children. "His focus is on his career, mine is mostly on the kids,” she told Vogue UK in 2022. “I'm very grateful that he lets me take the reins when it comes to our family. He trusts my decisions."

Brady had more time to commit to his kids after retiring in 2023. "They have watched enough of their dad's games, and it's time for me to watch their games," he said.

While Benjamin is following his dad’s footsteps into athletics, he’s also a big fan of making music — something his supermodel mom loves.

"It makes me proud to see how they're all becoming their own little individual selves, but how their principles and their values are so strong,” Bündchen told PEOPLE about her kids in 2023. “It makes me so happy to see that they're flourishing into their own beings."

Brady and Bündchen married in February 2009 and welcomed Benjamin at the end of that same year on Dec. 8, 2009. Benjamin was born at the couple’s home in Boston, Massachusetts — something the former NFL star wasn’t always on board with.

"It was a home birth and it was funny because he didn't want me to have a home birth," Bündchen shared in Brady’s Man in the Arena ESPN series. "He was like, 'Absolutely not,' and I was like, 'Excuse me, you don't get to choose that, it's my body.' "

While Brady had health concerns for Bündchen and their son, he appreciated the experience in the end. "Me being there with G at his birth in our home, it lives in my mind,” he said. “I think we brought this boy into the world in the most precious way.”

Bündchen also had lots of support from her mom, Vania. “My mother accompanied me since before Benjamin’s birth,” she told Brazil’s Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper in 2010. “She gave me great support. I couldn’t ask God for more support than this.”

Bündchen said Benjamin was a “little angel” from the start, and she “dedicated her days completely to him.”

“It is really tiring, but it’s such a special moment that I am enjoying it to the maximum,” she said. “To be a mother is a magical experience ... It really is the miracle of life. I am really happy!”

Brady and Bündchen divorced after 13 years of marriage in 2022, but they’ve only had wonderful things to say about each other and their co-parenting experience since then.

"We're not playing against each other," she said in her 2023 Vanity Fair cover story. "We are a team and that's beautiful. I look back and I have no regrets. I loved every bit of it."

The supermodel also shared that she learned "nothing is worth fighting [over]” from watching Brady’s co-parenting relationship with his ex, Moynahan.

Brady and Bündchen spend time with the kids together and apart and can often be seen commenting hearts on each others’ photos of the kids and sharing their support on Mother’s and Father’s Day.

Benjamin is still a young teenager, but he’s already done his fair share of traveling. From partying it up at Disney World to checking out art galleries in Miami and jumping off a yacht in Greece, he has vacationed all over the world.

Brady outlined Benjamin’s busy summer schedule in 2023, telling PEOPLE, “We're going to Disneyland tomorrow to celebrate because it's the last day of school. Then they're going with their mom for a couple of weeks to Brazil."

Last but not least, the kids planned to join Brady in Europe. "They got lots of good plans," he added. "These kids have a really good summer lined up."

Still, Benjamin has an independent spirit and is comfortable branching off on his own, too. "He’s having fun doing his own summer thing and visiting with his friends," a source told PEOPLE after Benjamin opted out of a trip to Africa and Brazil with his parents.

Brady’s talent may be on the field, but his kids are all gifted in the music realm. "Although I would definitely say I'm not musically inclined at all, my kids are, which I love," he told PEOPLE in 2023. "I love all the different arts for sure, I'm just not great at many of them."

"It's interesting, my son plays by ear too,” he shared, adding that the kids sing and play piano. “He doesn't like looking at notes, so he hears something and tries to play it. He's very talented. It's really fun for me to see."

Despite not being musically gifted himself, Brady said he learned a lot from his son. "It allows me to pay more attention to the things that they're interested in,” he said. “And it helps us grow in a lot of ways that we didn't think were possible had we not had these little amazing beings that come into our life.”

Bündchen shared that being the son of one of the most famous athletes of all time has caused Benjamin to deal with tricky situations in the past.

[The] athletic pressure of being Brady's son led to bullying in Boston after one particular baseball game,” she told Vanity Fair in 2023.

For that reason, Benjamin initially gravitated toward “non-ball” sports like skiing, surfing and jiu-jitsu. "They're all like senseis,” she said of their kids, who participate in martial arts.

Benjamin wants to follow in the footsteps of one of his dad’s famous teammates

While Benjamin eventually took an interest in his dad’s favorite sport, it’s one of Brady’s former teammates who he wants to emulate.

"My son is gonna play football this year, Benny, so I've been throwing the ball to him in the backyard,” Brady shared in his SiriusXM podcast Let's Go! in 2023.

"He told me this year, 'Dad, I'm playing football.' And I was like, 'What do you wanna play?' And he was like, 'Tight end. I wanna be like Gronk!' " the former NFL player continued. He then texted his old pal to share the news. “He loved it," Brady said.

The former Patriot has full confidence in his son’s ability on the field. “He's gonna be a little beast,” the famed quarterback added. “He's an amazing kid and he's got a lot of talents. He's a really talented musician and artist.”

Shortly after, Bündchen revealed that their son wears Brady’s No. 12 on the field. "He just started, and his first game was so nice,” she told PEOPLE. “It was nice to go because I had all the little friends come to me and be like, 'Oh my God, I love Benny.’ ”

Benjamin supports his dad both on the sidelines and behind the scenes. When Brady was honored during a halftime ceremony at Gillette Stadium in 2023, his son was right by his side, beaming with pride and wearing his dad’s jersey.

Back when Brady was still playing, Benjamin would send him love and support before big games. The former Buccaneer shared a screenshot of texts from Benjamin before his game against the New Orleans Saints in December 2022.

"I will be watching. Say hi to me on camera," Benjamin wrote. "YES!!!!!" the father of three replied.

Benjamin added, "Go and do what you do best. Kick some butt."

The NFL dad shared the screenshot on his Instagram story, captioning it, "The best motivation any dad can have!! I love you Benny❤️❤️❤️."
