Tori Spelling Says She 'Wouldn't Change a Moment' of Her 'Journey' with Ex Dean McDermott: 'I'm Grateful'

The 'misSPELLINGS' podcast host officially filed for divorce in March 2024 after 18 years of marriage

Tori Spelling is reminiscing on her journey with Dean McDermott following the pair's separation.

On the Thursday, June 6 episode of her misSPELLING podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 actress, 51, thought back to her days filming Mind Over Murder, where she met McDermott in 2004. She joked that Chris Albergini, the director of Spelling's sitcom So Notorious, brought her and her now ex together.

“I always jokingly blame one of our creators, Chris Albergini, because that night we had the read-through and the cast get-together,” she recalled. “And crew and everyone went home and Dean and I stayed.”

She added: “Chris Alberghini stayed. And I'm like, ‘This is your fault. Like, you let this happen.’ He's like, ‘I let it happen that you crawled across me to get to him and kissed him in the middle of, like, a bar?’ And I was like, ‘Yep.’”

Laughing at the memory, Spelling clarified that she doesn’t truly blame anyone, because it led to her and McDermott, 57, building a family together. She then offered an update on their relationship and co-parenting status.

“I'm super happy,” she said. “I'm grateful. We have five beautiful kids. I wouldn't change a moment of my journey. And Dean and I are super amicable and everything's great.”

The former couple separated in June 2023 and in March 2024, Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott after 18 years of marriage.

The pair had faced years of ups and downs in their marriage. In an extensive interview with Daily Mail in November 2023, McDermott, who has admitted to cheating in the past, took full responsibility for the deterioration of their relationship.

“All Tori's ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman," McDermott said at the time. "It's going to be living the rest of my life making amends because I took something that was really beautiful and I just tore it down year after year, day after day."

McDermott admitted the pair had not been sleeping in the same room and he had been "drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos [narcotics]."

”I finally surrendered to the fact that I need help,” he shared. “I wanted to die. I would wake up every morning going, ‘S---, I woke up again.’ And I’ve got six beautiful kids and a beautiful wife and I was pissed off that I woke up again."

McDermott also shares a son with his ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace.

Days after filing for divorce, Spelling debuted her podcast and revealed the “red flags” throughout her marriage, noting that things were "never the same after we started having kids."

“When he would drink, it was hard because I knew that at some point, it would turn,” she explained. “And I knew, you know, it was always different. It could be 2 drinks, it could be 5, 6 drinks. And then I would just see it turn and I’m like, ‘Oh, here we go.’ And then that became my dance on the eggshells.”
