Tottenham: Antonio Conte breaks silence on departure as Daniel Levy hunts for new manager

Antonio Conte has thanked Tottenham supporters for his time at the club.

Over a week after his outburst away at Southampton, the Italian’s departure was formally announced on Sunday night.

Conte succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo in November 2021 and led Spurs into the Champions League at the expense of Arsenal but struggled for consistency in his second season.

While Spurs sit fourth in the Premier League, fifth-placed Newcastle trail by only a point and boast two games in hand.

Assistant manager Cristian Stellini will take charge for the remaining ten games and chairman Daniel Levy has called for “everyone to pull together” to ensure Spurs make it back into Europe’s elite club competition.

Longer term, Julian Nagelsmann is believed to be a frontrunner for the job after his sacking at Bayern Munich, while former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and the similarly out-of-work Luis Enrique could be considered.

Posting on his Instagram, Conte wrote: “Football is passion. I would like to deeply thank everyone at SPURS who appreciated and shared my passion and my intense way of living football as a coach.

“A special thought to the Fans who always showed me support and appreciation, it’s been unforgettable to hear them singing my name.

“Our journey together has ended, I wish you all the best for the future.

“Antonio.”
