Tottenham captain Heung-min Son confirms why he won't be moving into management after retirement

Tottenham captain Heung-min Son admits he does not want to move into football management when he retires.

The South Korean was handed the captaincy at Spurs following the departure of Harry Kane this summer and has been hailed as a “leader” by manager Ange Postecoglou.

“Sonny, by nature, is a nice guy,” he said following an incident during the Asian Cup when the 31-year-old dislocated a finger in an altercation with teammate Lee Kang-in.

“He is very polite and very respectful but that doesn't mean he can't be a real winner and a guy who has high standards.”

Son has led by example after a difficult season last time out by scoring 14 Premier League goals in 25 appearances as Spurs push for Champions League qualification.

Speaking in January of Kane’s departure, the forward stressed he had felt the need to step up.

“When Harry was here and he was missing some games with injuries. I felt like I needed to step up in previous years, I hope our players have this kind of feeling that they need to step up.

"In this situation, you grow as a player and a human being. Richy is doing a fantastic job, I hope he is hungry for more goals, also Deki [Kulusevski] and Brennan.

"I hope everybody who is playing attacking positions can score as many goals as possible and bring us to a better position. I wish it more than anything else."

His leadership qualities were also praised by former manager Mauricio Pochettino but Son insists he has no plans to move into coaching as he does not feel he has the “ability to teach it to others.”

“It's a promise to me and a decision I've already made”, he told Harper’s Bazaar.

“I love soccer, but I don't have the ability to teach it to others, and I love the moment I kick the ball myself.”
