Done deal! Everton announce Patterson
15:29 , George Flood
Everton have now officially confirmed the arrival of Nathan Patterson from Rangers.
The Scotland right-back, 20, has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Goodison Park that lasts until 2027.
Patterson becomes Everton’s second signing of the window already, with Ukraine left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko having arrived from Dynamo Kyiv last week.
The deal is worth £10m plus add-ons.
Patterson told evertontv: “I’m over the moon to sign for Everton and looking forward to getting started.
“It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous.
“Obviously we aren’t in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that.
“It is really exciting to come to a club that has huge talent in the team. I am going to work my socks off and hopefully I can do well with them in training and in games.
“It was also great for me knowing the manager (Rafael Benitez) really wanted me here and that made my decision.
“When a club really wants you, it makes your mind up early on. I wanted to come here from the very start. I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to playing in front of the fans at Goodison.
“Long-term, I want to nail down a starting position and win some trophies to make the fans proud.”

Tuchel was also asked about Antonio Rudiger, who is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as he is in the final six months of his Chelsea contract.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Juventus are interested in the defender.
“I cannot predict the future,” said Tuchel. “I do not know if his representatives talk to other clubs. Of course, it is possible now because it is January and he has not signed yet. As I understand it, we are in communication with him, the club is in communication with him.
“I know he is very aware how I appreciate to work with him. The point is very clear, the club is trying the very best and there are communications going on.”

Tuchel: Lukaku feels responsibility to clean up mess
13:58 , George Flood
Here’s more from Tuchel on Lukaku, including the latter’s need to take personal responsibility to limit the damage caused by his explosive interview:
“It’s not that big as maybe people want it to be, but it’s also not small,” said Tuchel.
“But it is small enough to stay calm, accept an apology and to move on forward. He’s very aware of what happened and what he created and he feels the responsibility to clean the mess up.
“Maybe we will have a bit of smell still from it of course. He can handle it, but he also has no other choice.
“He cannot expect everybody to be super happy the very next day.
“But he’s still our player and we have good, good reasons and a lot of reasons to make him play for us, and to convince him and to fight hard that he’s our player. We’re happy he’s our player, we will protect him.”
Lukaku BACK in Chelsea squad for Tottenham clash, Tuchel confirms
13:56 , George Flood
Romelu Lukaku will return to the Chelsea squad for tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg showdown with rivals Tottenham.
The Belgian striker was dropped completely for Sunday’s Premier League draw with Liverpool after the airing of a Sky Sport Italia interview conducted a few weeks earlier in which he complained about life at Stamford Bridge and his usage by Thomas Tuchel as he also voiced a desire to return to Inter Milan in future.
But Lukaku apologised to his manager during clear-the-air talks held at Cobham yesterday and Tuchel has confirmed at his pre-match press conference this afternoon that Chelsea’s £97.5m record signing will be back in contention to face Spurs at Stamford Bridge.
“First of all we were even in the background happy that we took the time that it needed to look calmly on it and talk calmly,” said Tuchel.
“He apologised and is back in the squad for today’s training. For me the most important thing was to understand and clearly understand and believe that it was not intentional.
“He did not do this intentionally to create noise in front of such a big game. And it’s the very first time even he has behaved like this.”

Done deal! Gallacher leaves Liverpool
13:15 , George Flood
News of an exit from Liverpool this afternoon.
Left-back Tony Gallacher has left Anfield for the Scottish Premiership’s bottom side St Johnstone, penning terms until 2024 at McDiarmid Park.
The former Falkirk youngster was unable to break into the first-team squad after joining Liverpool in 2018 and spent part of last season on loan at MLS outfit Toronto FC.
“I’m really excited about my move to St Johnstone and can’t wait to get started,” Gallacher said.
“I had a great time at Liverpool and I’d like to thank everyone there for looking after me and helping me to improve as a footballer and teach me so many good habits.
“I feel very lucky to have been part of a massive football club with so many wonderful professionals and people. It was an incredible education.
“But I felt the time was right to look for first-team football and an exciting opportunity presented itself at St Johnstone.
“Having been out on loan at Toronto, I enjoyed my time there and it made me want more and more first-team football.
“It’s now up to me to show everyone at St Johnstone that I’m good enough to play regular first-team football and that’s what I plan to do.
“My preference is to play on the left-hand side as I feel I have good energy to get up and down and can deliver crosses into the box. I also enjoy the defensive side of the game.”

Premier League clubs eye shock Eriksen swoop
12:56 , Giuseppe Muro
Christian Eriksen expects to begin training with a European top-flight team this month, and Premier League clubs are showing an interest in the former Tottenham midfielder.
Eriksen’s contract with Inter Milan was terminated last month because Italian regulations prevent him from playing in Serie A because he is fitted with an internal defibrillator.
But, following after a series of medical tests, Eriksen has been cleared to resume his career and he can sign for a new club as a free agent.
His agent Martin Schoots told the Daily Mail: “It is going really well for Christian. He had all the checks just before Christmas and the results were so good that we expect him to be involved in a group training with a team some time later in January.
“Although Christian’s position will not be affected by the January transfer window as he is a free agent, we are looking at the second half of this month.”
Maitland-Niles cleared to leave Arsenal
12:34 , Giuseppe Muro
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been cleared to leave Arsenal for Roma this month.
Roma have made an offer to sign Maitland-Niles on loan with view to a permanent move in the summer and the Daily Mail report that Arsenal are set to respond to the offer in the next 24 hours.
While there is no final agreement in place yet, the deal appears to be moving in the right direction.
12:28 , Giuseppe Muro
There has been an outgoing at Old Trafford, with Manchester United confirming 19-year-old defender Teden Mengi has joined Championship side Birmingham City on loan until the end of the season.
Mengi made his United debut in the Europa League against LASK in August 2020 and has made one appearance for them this season, coming off the bench in the Champions League against Young Boys at Old Trafford in December.
“I am delighted to be here,” said Mengi. “[I am] ready to work hard and kick on for the rest of the season.
“It was important for me to try and find what was best for me, which is here at Blues and to just kick on and get as many games under my belt and improve as much as I can as a player and as a person.”
Man United join Liverpool in Zakaria race
12:04 , George Flood
Denis Zakaria is going to be a very popular name in transfer dispatches throughout this window.
The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has already been linked with the likes of Liverpool, who are said to have lodged an enquiry over his transfer status.
Now The Mirror claim that Manchester United are also tracking Swiss international Zakaria, who is valued at around the £25m mark with his current contract due to expire this summer, as well as Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.
RB Leipzig duo Amadou Haidara and Christopher Nkunku have also been mentioned as potential targets as Ralf Rangnick looks to boost his midfield options.
Barcelona in race for Haaland?
11:58 , George Flood
According to several outlets, Barcelona are believed to be close to finalising the arrival of ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata from Juventus on an initial six-month loan that includes the option for a permanent summer transfer.
However, that’s not the only big rumour concerning the LaLiga giants just at the moment.
Barcelona are also being touted as players in the Erling Haaland sweepstakes as club president Joan Laporta declared the club back in business as a transfer force after their well-documented financial issues.
Asked about interest in Haaland, he said: “We’re working to build a top team.
“Everything is possible if we do things well and I’m sure we will.
“Top players are open to joining Barca. We’re definitely recovering our status.
“Everybody in the world should get ready, as we are back as big players in the market.”
Barca have already signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City this month, securing a bank loan to help seal the £46m deal.
Patterson undergoing Everton medical
10:26 , George Flood
Everton are close to wrapping up their second signing of the January window already as they look to kickstart a disappointing season under Rafael Benitez.
We mentioned earlier that the club were closing in on the capture of Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson, having already acquired the services of Ukraine international Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv.
The Times’ Paul Joyce has just reported that Patterson is currently undergoing his medical ahead of a switch south from Ibrox to Goodison Park.
Everton are believed to be paying £10m up front for the Scotland defender.
Arsenal transfer latest
10:12 , George Flood
With the January window now in full swing, Standard Sport’s team of football writers will be offering the latest transfer guides to all of our clubs throughout the day.
First up, it’s Simon Collings on Arsenal...
Arsenal’s business in the January transfer window is likely to be defined by who leaves the club this month.
The future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is very uncertain and the striker has not played since being stripped of the captaincy last month.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a target for Roma, who want to sign him on loan, while left-back Sead Kolasinac is likely to leave too.
Strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer, making now the last chance to cash in on them, but Arsenal are unlikely to sell the pair given their shortage of alternative options up front.
Fellow forward Folarin Balogun, however, will leave on loan to a Championship club.
Arsenal would prefer to do their business in the summer, when they want to sign a striker and central midfielder. Strikers Alexander Isak, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonathan David and Ollie Watkins have all been scouted.
Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been watched also. Juventus forward Dejan Kulusevski has been offered to Premier League clubs and could act as loan cover, if Aubameyang leaves.
West Ham ready to launch new Lingard bid
09:38 , George Flood
Plenty of West Ham transfer gossip flying around at the moment as David Moyes targets new additions this month to try and sustain an unlikely Champions League qualification push.
While the likes of Brazil striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa and Wolves winger Adama Traore are being linked with moves to east London, one very familiar rumour is doing the rounds once more.
According to The Express, West Ham are now ready to table another bid to secure the return of popular former loanee Jesse Lingard.
Moyes reportedly hopes that United will be willing to offload the England midfielder - who has played just 88 minutes of club football all season - for a cut-price fee of around £10m, rather than lose him for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.
Ancelotti tight-lipped over Mbappe to Real Madrid
09:21 , George Flood
The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid rumours have really begun to gather pace once again over recent weeks.
The French superstar is now able to discuss terms with long-term suitors Los Blancos having entered the final months of his deal with Paris Saint-Germain, who still hope to agree a big-money extension.
However, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is not giving anything away when it comes to a swoop for Mbappe.
“I don’t know. We think we will continue to fight for titles,” he said when asked about a potential move before Sunday’s shock defeat by Getafe.
Aaron Ramsey to leave Juventus for Newcastle?
09:16 , George Flood
Could former Arsenal favourite Aaron Ramsey make a return to the Premier League?
The Welsh international has fallen down the Juventus pecking order under Max Allegri and is now being linked with a sensational move to Newcastle.
Reports in the Daily Star claim that Ramsey is personally trying to negotiate an exit from Turin and is seen as a potential ideal signing to bolster Eddie Howe’s struggling midfield at St James’ Park.
Ramsey has 18 months left to go on his £230,000-a-week deal at Juve, but Saudi-backed Newcastle now surely won’t have an issue in terms of matching those figures.
Liverpool to battle AC Milan for Camara?
08:49 , George Flood
Liverpool will be interested spectators in the Africa Cup of Nations this month.
As well as following the fortunes of their own stars in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita in Cameroon, the Reds will also be monitoring attacking midfielder Aguibou Camara.
Keita’s Guinea team-mate has been impressing in Greece with Olympiacos and, according to Football Italia, is attracting interest from Liverpool and AC Milan.

However, reports in Italy cited by The Sun say that manager Antonio Conte favours a move for McKennie, while sporting director Fabio Paratici is keen on Kulusevski.
Chelsea step up Lucas Digne chase
08:30 , George Flood
While Lukaku will not be leaving Chelsea this month, one potential new arrival in west London is Lucas Digne.
The former Barcelona defender appears free to leave Everton, who have already signed Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv in January and are now about to complete a deal for Rangers’ Nathan Patterson.
Chelsea are looking for left-back cover after losing Ben Chilwell for the remainder of the season following knee surgery and have been unsuccessful in their request to recall Emerson Palmieri from his loan stint at Lyon.
Now The Sun say that the Blues will step up their bid to capture Digne on loan.
Lukaku has ‘no intention’ of forcing Chelsea exit
08:25 , George Flood
Romelu Lukaku has no intention of leaving Chelsea either this month or in the summer window.
That is according to The Times, who say that the Belgian striker is not trying to force an exit from Stamford Bridge despite the recent controversy over an explosive, unsanctioned interview in Italy in which he expressed frustration with life at Chelsea.
Lukaku was dropped from the squad altogether for Sunday’s key showdown with Liverpool, but is reported to have held positive, conciliatory talks with manager Thomas Tuchel yesterday.
He is expected to play some part tomorrow night as Chelsea meet Tottenham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
Arsenal and Tottenham target Vlahovic speaks on future
08:20 , George Flood
One striker who might not be coming to the Premier League in 2022 is Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbian international has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, with Fiorentina appearing to admit defeat in their bid to convince him to sign a contract extension.
However, Vlahovic has not ruled out potentially staying in Serie A.
When asked over a new deal, he said: “Never say never. But at the moment I am focused on new victories.
“We have a good team, great football players, great support from the fans. It all deserves respect.
“Only God knows what will happen in the next period. My wish is to bring Fiorentina to Europe, because we have not been in Europe for a long time.
“I don’t know what can happen overnight. We’ll see.”
Arsenal ‘win race’ to sign Real Sociedad striker Isak
08:14 , George Flood
Arsenal have ‘won the race’ to sign Sweden striker Alexander Isak, reports suggest.
El Nacional claim that Real Sociedad have blocked a move for the highly-rated 22-year-old to domestic rivals Barcelona, leaving the path clear for the Gunners to pounce.
Isak would be seen as a long-term replacement to deposed captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is apparently now being offered to big clubs around Europe with his Emirates future in severe doubt.
