Arteta on Raya interest and Ramsdale

Thursday 3 August 2023 08:41 , Alex Young

The Gunners have surprised many by launching a bid for Raya, a player they failed to sign three years ago, and have quickly agreed personal terms with the Spain international.

Arsenal must now agree a fee with the Bees, who want £40million for a player who has less than one year on his contract. Tottenham and Bayern Munich have previously tried and failed with bids for Raya.

It remains to be seen what Raya’s arrival would mean for current first-choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who recently signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal but has at times faced criticism for his performances.

Ramsdale did his chances no harm on Wednesday by saving a penalty as Arsenal beat Monaco in a shootout to win the Emirates Cup.

Brighton receive Caicedo bid from mystery club

Thursday 3 August 2023 06:55 , Alex Young

Brighton have received a bid for Moises Caicedo from a mystery club which exceeds Chelsea's £80million offer.

Caicedo is the Blues' key summer transfer target but are struggling to agree a fee with Brighton, and have seen three offers rejected worth £60m, then £70m and last week an £80m bid was immediately dismissed.

Brighton are under no pressure to sell Caicedo, with the 21-year-old under contract until 2027 and the club not in need of boosting their bank balance, but the player's representative are reportedly 'baffled' that £80m did not prompt a negotiation.

It was unknown if Chelsea were to return with a fourth bid, but could now be forced into action as The Athletic report Brighton have received a bid from an unidentified club that trumps Chelsea's best bid.

Wednesday 2 August 2023 21:50 , George Flood

Micky van de Ven looks to be heading to Tottenham.

It’s been rather quiet on that front since reports from weeks ago suggesting that an agreement over Van de Ven was close.

However, Fabrizio Romano now reports that Tottenham are on the verge of a deal for the Dutch Under-21 international, with personal terms 100 per cent agreed.

Special report: Transfer window pain for West Ham

Wednesday 2 August 2023 12:33 , Alex Young

Frustration is setting in at West Ham as the club struggles to make inroads in the transfer market, despite looking to reinvest its Declan Rice windfall.

David Moyes remains keen to add three or four players to his squad before the window closes, but time is running out for the Irons, who risk heading into the new campaign without reinforcements — and minus Rice, who was sold to Arsenal for a British record £105million last month.

However, the Championship club upped its asking price to £9.5m (£5m plus £4.5m) at the 11th hour in the hope of sparking a bidding war for Phillips before a £2m release clause in his contract becomes active on Friday, on the eve of the new Championship season.

No rival club has bid for Phillips in the intervening period, however, and the 18-year-old is said to be determined to join Spurs.

Kane open to discussing new Spurs contract

Wednesday 2 August 2023 07:21 , Alex Young

Talking of Harry Kane, the striker expects to remain at Tottenham this summer if the club has not reached an agreement with Bayern Munich before the opening game of the season in 11 days’ time.

Kane has made it clear that he plans to stay at Spurs if he lines up at Brentford in their Premier League opener on August 13, believing it would be unfair on the club and new head coach Ange Postecoglou to leave after the start of the campaign.

Bayern and Spurs remain some way apart in their valuation of the England captain, who has entered the final 12 months of a six-year deal, following a meeting between Daniel Levy and executives from the Bundesliga champions in central London yesterday.

If he does stay put this summer, Kane is prepared to negotiate a contract extension with the club during the early months of the upcoming season if they show significant progress on the pitch under Postecoglou.
