Transgender man with 2 ‘wives’ pleads guilty to sex with minor

A transgender man, who has two “wives”, pleaded guilty on Monday (7 December) to having sex with an underage teenage girl from his neighbourhood, The Straits Times reported.

Born a woman but identifying as male, Zunika Ahmad had consensual sex with the girl when she was between 13 and 14, initially using a dildo but later switching to using his fingers.

According to the report, Zunika's lawyer N. Sudha Nair said her client felt using his fingers was “less sinful”.

Zunika, 39, pleaded guilty to six charges of sexual penetration of a minor, and one of sexual exploitation. The offences took place between April 2012 and December 2013.

He will be sentenced at a later date, with an additional 14 charges taken into consideration.

His lawyer asked for less than three years jail so he can go for sex reassignment surgery after his release. Deputy Public Prosecutor John Lu is seeking eight years’ jail.

Both of Zunika’s “wives” were in court on Monday, The Straits Times reported.
