Following his father’s advice and saying yes to Encore has paid off for an Ontario man who won $100,000 in the Oct. 29, Lotto 6/49 draw.

Michael Taylor, a 50-year-old truck driver from Burlington, has been playing the lottery for 30 years. Throughout this time, he’s been using the same regular numbers that he received in a special way — from his late father in a dream.

“My dad passed away, and in a dream, he gave me lottery numbers,” said Taylor, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

“I’ve been playing them ever since.”

While he used his late dad's numbers for his original Lotto 6/49 picks, he got some additional luck through the computer generated Encore numbers.

He had matched six of seven Encore numbers, 3577146, in exact order leading to his big $100,000 win. The bonus game allows players to pay an extra $1 to attach to their already purchased ticket for a host game. There’s an Encore draw everyday.

Taylor, who is a father and grandfather himself, said he went to replay his ticket when he came across the big surprise.

“It was all kind of a blur. When I saw $100,000 on the screen, my hands were shaking,” said Taylor. “I was so excited and happy of course.”

His lucky ticket was purchased at a Fortinos on Appleby Line in Burlington, and while at the store, Taylor called his wife to share the news. She was in disbelief.

“And she said, ‘Stop lying to me!’” shared Taylor.

For Taylor and his family, the win means he can pay off his mortgage and retire early.

“It was so fun,” recalled Taylor.

It looks like paying attention to his dream and father’s intuition paid off.
