Trump to attend town hall with Hannity in Iowa ahead of GOP debate

Former President Trump is expected attend a town hall event next week in Iowa hosted by Fox News’s Sean Hannity, a source familiar with the plan confirmed to The Hill.

The town hall is set to take place Tuesday, one day before the next Republican presidential primary debate. The New York Times reported the town hall will be held in Davenport, Iowa.

Trump will not attend next Wednesday’s debate and will instead hold a private fundraiser in Florida.

The former president previously attended an Iowa town hall event hosted by Hannity in July.

Trump is set to travel to Iowa on Saturday for a rally in Cedar Rapids in his latest visit to the state.

Polls have consistently shown Trump leading his rivals by more than 20 percentage points in Iowa, which will hold the first caucus of the primary calendar on Jan. 15, 2024. His lead in national polls is even greater.

The former president has yet to attend a primary debate with his rivals, citing his dominant lead in national and state-level polls as a primary reason.

Trump skipped the first debate in August and instead sat down for a prerecorded interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that was released right as the debate began.

The former president traveled to Michigan in lieu of attending the second debate in September, speaking to workers amid a United Auto Workers strike.

And Trump held a rally in Florida last month just miles down the road from the third primary debate, which took place in Miami.

Next week’s debate will take place in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It will be hosted by NewsNation.
